Politikus MyPPP dan Malaiur Manikam

Pada 21 Mei 2019, seorang politikus MyPPP, A. Chandrakumanan yang menggelarkan dirinya “pemerhati dan penganalisis politik” serta presiden Pusat Aduan Rakyat Malaysia (PAR Malaysia) menyatakan di Facebook bahawa dia telah menyerahkan memorandum di Kementerian Dalam Negeri (KDN) untuk menggesa buku Malaiur Manikam diharamkan.

“Memorandum To Ban The Book Malaiur Manikam By Uthaya Shankar” [sic] bertarikh 9 Mei 2019 dan dialamatkan kepada “Menteri Dalam Negerimerhand” [sic], Muhyiddin Yassin, di Putrajaya.

Kandungan memorandum adalah seperti berikut:

We from PAR Malaysia would like to refer the above matter and requesting KDN would withdraw and cancel the above mentioned book which is causing lots of confusion and created unhappiness among our multiracial society.

We have discovered the following reasons as to why this book should be withdrawn and banned by the Home Ministry:

1. This book has caused lots of confusion among Muslims and Non Muslims.

2. This book have [sic] triggered disturbances among the multiracial society.

3. This book written by a Hindu without any knowledge about Hinduism and he is neither a spiritual master nor a Hindu scholar to be regarded as an authority.

4. He as a Hindu have [sic] written about all the other religion Islam, Christianity, Buddhism and Sikhism which is not right, further this is not about writing book or about fiction. Religion is a very sensitive issues [sic] and such book cannot be taken lightly.

5. Zambri [sic] Vinoth, the controversial preacher who had almost 200 police reports filed against him recently, has used this book as his reference. The non charges against him so far has angered many Indians but they do not know that it is impossible to charge Zambri [sic] Vinoth if publications of books like Malaiur Manikam is not curbed.

As such, we strongly urge the Home Minister, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin to invoke his powers under Section 7(1) of the Printing Presses and Publications Act mentioned below, to take action against the aforementioned BOOK which is detrimental to the unity of the country:

7 . (1) If the Minister is satisfied that any publication contains any article, caricature, photograph, report, notes, writing, sound, music, statement or any other thing which is in any manner prejudicial to or likely to be prejudicial to public order, morality, security, or which is likely to alarm public opinion, or which is or likely to be contrary to any law or is otherwise prejudicial to or likely to be prejudicial to public interest or national interest, he may in his absolute discretion by order published in the Gazette prohibit, either absolutely or subject to such conditions as may be prescribed, the printing, Importation [sic], production, reproduction, publishing, sale, issue, circulation, distribution or possession of that publication and future publications of the publisher concerned.

Memorandum itu juga ada salinan kepada Perdana Menteri, Mahathir Mohamad, dan Menteri Perpaduan di Jabatan Perdana Menteri, Waytha Moorthy. Tidak pula dinyatakan di Facebook sama ada turut diserahkan kepada mereka berdua.

Pada masa sama, tidak juga disertakan maklumat terperinci dan bukti kukuh mengenai bahagian-bahagian mana yang dianggap oleh puak PAR Malaysia dan politikus MyPPP itu sebagai mengundang “lots of confusion and created unhappiness among our multiracial society”.

Saya tidak menolak kemungkinan Chandrakumanan dan macai-macainya tidak pernah memegang — apatah lagi membaca sepenuhnya — buku Malaiur Manikam. Kumpulan esei ini terbit pada November 2015 dan dicetak semula pada April 2016.

Sesi Bicara Buku Malaiur Manikam akan berlangsung di Setia Alam, Shah Alam pada 26 Mei 2019 (Ahad). Memandangkan puak PAR Malaysia — dan The Patriots — tidak membaca buku Malaiur Manikam, tentulah mereka tidak akan berani hadir untuk terlibat dalam sesi perbincangan ini.
